In Hay Season, I wanted to capture that quiet, fleeting moment when the countryside feels open and generous, just after the fields have been cut. The wide sky sits softly above the land, pale and calm, allowing the earthy tones below to breathe. I worked with warm ochres and golden yellows to suggest freshly turned hay, balanced against lush greens that speak of growth, renewal, and the rhythm of rural life.

My mark-making is loose and instinctive here, echoing the way the land itself feels worked but not over-controlled. Soft blush and earthy touches move through the foreground, hinting at grasses, wildflowers, and the subtle chaos of nature left behind after harvest. These gestures are about feeling rather than detail, a memory of place rather than a literal scene.
