In Dance of the Waves, I wanted to capture the constant movement and rhythm of the sea. The soft blue-green water rolls gently across the canvas, layered with loose, expressive brushstrokes that suggest waves rising and falling in their own time. The pale sky sits quietly above, calm and open, allowing the energy of the water to take centre stage. For me, this work is about flow and how the ocean is never still, always shifting and responding to the light and the air around it.

As I painted, I let my marks move freely, almost instinctively, echoing the way waves break, retreat, and reform. The deeper, scribbled purples and darker lines hint at submerged rocks and hidden currents beneath the surface, while lighter touches of cream and white skim across the water like foam catching the sun. There is a sense of spontaneity here, a feeling of letting go and trusting the paint to find its own path.

This work speaks to my love of the coast and the quiet joy I find in watching the sea for long stretches of time. Dance of the Waves is not about a single moment, but about the ongoing conversation between water, sky, and shore. I hope it invites the viewer to slow down, breathe, and feel the gentle, timeless movement of the ocean.
