In this work Countryside - Ochre and Stillness, I wanted to capture the vast, quiet breath where countryside meets outback and the feeling of standing alone in a wide, open landscape where the earth seems to hum beneath your feet. The muted golds and dusty ochres pull you into the dry plains, while that soft, hazy sky stretches endlessly above. This stillness is something I’m always chasing in my art, that sense of timelessness, of land that has existed far longer than we can imagine.

As I painted the foreground, I pushed into deeper rusts and rich earth tones, letting the textures build up like exposed rock and ancient soil. These rugged forms ground the scene, giving it weight and history. The distant trees and faint marks on the horizon are just whispers and tiny reminders of life surviving in a place shaped by heat, wind, and memory.

For me, this piece is about honouring the quiet drama of the Australian landscape. It’s not loud or showy; it’s slow, vast, and full of stories you can feel more than you can see. It’s a place where the land itself becomes the narrator.
