I’m always drawn to the colours, textures and contrasts of the Australian Outback, and this artwork captures the feeling of discovering water in the middle of a rugged, sunburnt landscape. I’ve used layers of expressive brushwork, earthy ochres and warm reds, balanced with cooler blues and greens, to create a sense of depth and movement. For me, it’s about that beautiful contrast between the dry, open country and the life-giving water that brings everything together.

I love working intuitively, building up layers of colour and adding my spontaneous scribbles, scratches and gestural marks until the painting develops its own energy. I don’t want to capture a place too literally but instead, I want to express how it feels to be there. With Outback Waterhole, I hope to convey the raw beauty of this remarkable landscape and the sense of quiet vitality that exists where the water meets the land.
