A Sense of Place captures the rugged beauty and enduring spirit of the Australian outback. Inspired by stories of travel along the iconic Gibb River Road, I wanted to evoke that feeling of standing within an ancient landscape shaped by time, weather and resilience. Through expressive brushwork and rich layers of ochre, rust and earth-red tones, I have sought to convey the warmth of the sunlit escarpments and the raw energy that radiates from these remarkable rock formations.
As I painted, I was drawn not only to the physical landscape but also to the emotional connection we form with places that leave a lasting impression on us. The scattered touches of green speak of life persisting in seemingly harsh conditions, while the open sky offers a sense of freedom and possibility. A Sense of Place is my reflection on the memories, stories and emotions of my collector that become intertwined with the landscapes they encountered, long after the journey itself has ended.
