When I created this piece, I wanted to honour the vast, open beauty of the Australian outback and the way the land glows with those deep, fiery ochres and rusts under a big, endless sky. As I painted, I felt myself sinking into the quiet rhythm of the landscape, letting the colours guide me. The soft blue sky above feels like a cool breath against the heat of the earth, giving the work a sense of calm that balances the rich, warm tones below.
I loved building up the foreground with loose, expressive marks, suggesting hardy shrubs and scrub that cling to life in this rugged environment. Those deep reds, burnt siennas, and earthy browns capture the energy and movement of the land, almost as though it’s pulsing with stories beneath the surface. For me, this painting is about feeling small in a vast, powerful landscape and at the same time, deeply connected to it.
In the distance, that dark horizon line acts as an anchor, grounding the whole scene and pulling the viewer across the heat-hazed plains. This work reflects my ongoing love affair with the Australian interior, its raw beauty, its contrasts, and the quiet magic that settles over it when you stop and really look.
The canvas is an original piece and comes with d rings and wire ready to hang. The piece is Unframed and sides are painted in a crisp white to set off the artwork. The work is created in acrylic paint. All work has been sealed for protection.
