When I painted this piece, Outback Pulse I wanted to capture the vast, raw pulse of the outback, the way the land seems to breathe under the open sky. Standing before this scene in my mind, I felt the heat rising from the earth, those deep russets and rich ochres shifting and blending like stories layered over time. The horizon stretched endlessly, and with it came a sense of freedom and quiet strength that I translated into loose, expressive marks and sweeping colour fields.
As I worked, I focused on the contrast between the grounded, earthy warmth and the soft, pale openness of the sky. I let my brush wander, creating spontaneous scribbles and textured strokes that echo the ruggedness of the terrain with twisted shrubs, dry grasses, and the subtle movement of wind over dust. The piece became a celebration of the outback’s spirit: wild, resilient, and full of hidden detail if you linger long enough.
In the final layers, I aimed to capture not just what the landscape looks like, but how it feels alive, ancient, and quietly powerful. This artwork is my personal homage to the Australian interior, a place that continues to inspire me with its beauty and its emotional depth.
