A Sunburnt Country is my tribute to the wide, open heart of the Australian landscape. In this piece, I wanted to capture that endless horizon where the land stretches out under a soft, pale sky. The golden yellows and warm ochres roll across the canvas like sun-drenched paddocks, layered with rich browns and rusty tones that speak of dry soil and worn tracks. My brushstrokes are loose and instinctive, and the scribbles and marks are there to create movement — like the land is alive, quietly shifting and breathing in the heat.

On the left, I’ve worked in textured greens and lighter touches to suggest scrub and hardy bush pushing through the dryness. That contrast feels important to me — the toughness of a sunburnt country softened by colour and light. This painting feels grounded and honest. It’s open, spacious, and calm — a simple, modern love note to the resilience and quiet beauty of our countryside.
